Photographing Chef Kevin Miller’s specialty catering business, Copper Kitchen, was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Located in Baltimore’s vibrant Federal Hill neighborhood, Copper Kitchen offers exquisite dishes that blend creativity and precision.
Chef Miller cooks with a fast-paced style that excites any photographer. Moreover, when he teams up with sous chef Nicole Feldhaus, their collaboration feels like a well-rehearsed symphony. Together, they create dishes that not only taste incredible but also look stunning on camera. As a result, this unique energy in the kitchen turns each dish into a visual and gastronomic masterpiece.
The Perks of Food Photography
Food photography goes beyond simply capturing a dish. It’s about experiencing the culinary artistry that brings it to life. One of the greatest perks is tasting the creations after photographing them. Shooting at Copper Kitchen offered me this unique opportunity. I witnessed firsthand the expertise and passion of Chef Kevin Miller and Sous Chef Nicole Feldhaus. Each dish reflected their dedication to cooking, making the process equally satisfying for the palate and the camera.
By using the Canon EOS 7D, I was able to capture the vibrant colors and intricate details of each dish. Specifically, the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens provided wide-angle shots that highlighted the overall presentation. Meanwhile, the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens allowed me to focus on finer details—the textures, garnishes, and rich colors that defined each plate. Consequently, these tools helped me showcase the full artistry of Copper Kitchen’s creations. Ultimately, every photo reflected the dedication and skill behind each dish.
Baltimore’s Culinary Gem
Baltimore’s Federal Hill is home to many culinary gems, and Copper Kitchen stands out among them. Photographing there wasn’t just about documenting food; it was about capturing the essence of a dining experience. The artistry on the plate perfectly matched the rich flavors in each bite, making it a memorable shoot.
