A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of photographing the dynamic workplace during the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) Review Chair Meeting in Baltimore. Since its establishment in 1977, the NWSA has been dedicated to advancing knowledge about women and gender through education, research, and advocacy. This meeting was particularly significant because it brought together leadership from across the country, offering a rare opportunity for collaboration within a shared workplace.

During the photography session, I focused on capturing the essence of leadership in the NWSA. Through candid shots, I documented the vibrant discussions and interactions that truly define the NWSA’s collaborative spirit. Additionally, I took professional headshots of the leaders present. Meanwhile, Baltimore, with its rich history and diverse culture, served as an inspiring backdrop. This setting not only added depth but also provided context to the portrayal of the NWSA’s vital work within this workplace.

About the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA)

The National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA), founded in 1977, is dedicated to promoting and supporting the production and dissemination of knowledge about women and gender. Through teaching, research, and service, the NWSA plays a crucial role in advancing women’s and gender studies. The association brings together scholars, educators, and activists from various disciplines, fostering collaboration and advocating for gender equity and social justice.

Gear Used to

To effectively capture the leadership within the NWSA workplace during the Review Chair Meeting, I used the following photography gear:

  • Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark III
  • Lenses:
    • EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens
    • EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III was my primary tool for this shoot, offering the flexibility needed to capture a range of scenes within the workplace. The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens was ideal for wide-angle shots, encompassing the entire workplace and the dynamic interactions within it. The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens allowed me to capture candid moments and close-ups from a distance, ensuring the meeting’s natural flow wasn’t interrupted. This combination of gear enabled me to document the NWSA workplace and its leadership with clarity and creativity, preserving the significance of their work.
