Baltimore’s lively city life is a great place to take pictures of the beauty of everyday moments. In my latest Moments Photography session, I had the chance to work with the Majer family. They show the spirit of living and loving in this lively city. We began our adventure on a chilly winter evening at The Charmery, a beloved ice cream spot in Fells Point. Despite the cold, the warmth of their shared laughter and the sweet treats made for a memorable experience.
The Joy of Capturing These Moments
Photographing the Majer family was an absolute joy. Their genuine connection and love for their city shone through in every frame. We explored the charming streets of Fells Point and even had an impromptu breakfast shoot the next morning. Each moment was filled with authenticity and warmth. These are the moments I strive to capture—unguarded, everyday interactions that truly reflect a family’s life. The Majers reminded me that the most precious memories are often found in the simplest, most ordinary experiences, like enjoying ice cream on a winter night or sharing a meal at home.
About the Moments Photography Series
The Moments Photography Series is an ongoing project. I focus on capturing quiet yet profound moments in everyday life. Inspired by the belief that beauty lies in the ordinary, this series documents fleeting emotions, interactions, and experiences. These moments define our daily lives. Working with families like the Majers in Baltimore lets me explore their unique, intimate connections. Each session offers a chance to rediscover the magic in the mundane and preserve those memories for a lifetime.
The Gear Behind the Magic
For this session, I used the Canon EOS 5D Mark III paired with the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM lens. This combination is my go-to for capturing the depth and emotion of each shot. The 35mm focal length is perfect for environmental portraits. It includes just enough of the surroundings to tell a story without distracting from the subjects. The f/1.4 aperture excels in low light, capturing sharp, beautiful images. It also creates a dreamy bokeh that adds warmth and intimacy to the photos.

With the arrival of our second child and many friends and close relatives scattered across the country, we felt it was time to get serious about capturing and sharing this moment in our growing family’s life. We had long resisted hiring a professional, tired of seeing the same old photos and skeptical of anyone’s ability to truly capture this exciting and fleeting time. We chose Jiho because of his extraordinary ability to be friendly enough to make you entirely comfortable with his presence while also somehow constantly recording what often turn out to be striking, well-composed, high-quality images.
Because we wanted authenticity, we invited Jiho to hang out with us in our home, in our neighborhood, and in our city. He gently urged us to let him photograph our morning routine, pajamas and all, and beautifully captured the ordinary and mundane. These are moments we would otherwise only hold onto in our memories and, we think, will be our most cherished photos. We hope we will have many more opportunities to work with Jiho in this lifetime.
