For a recent project, I had the pleasure of photographing Erica A., a writer/editor by day and yoga instructor by night. As we moved around different spots in Baltimore, I captured her demonstrating various yoga poses, all with her signature grace and flexibility. Our photoshoot featured a two-light setup that beautifully highlighted her movements and expressions.
The Health Benefits of Yoga
Yoga offers a multitude of benefits, making it a popular practice worldwide. One of the most significant advantages is improved flexibility. Regular yoga practice stretches and lengthens the muscles, which not only enhances mobility but also reduces the likelihood of injury.
Along with flexibility, yoga is excellent for building strength. Many poses require you to hold your own body weight, which helps tone muscles and build endurance over time. This not only improves overall physical strength but also supports better posture and balance.
Photography Gear Used
To ensure the best quality images, I used my Canon EOS 7D, a camera known for its reliability and sharpness. For wide-angle shots that captured the full breadth of Erica’s poses and the environment, I relied on the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens. This lens was perfect for getting those expansive shots that show the entirety of her yoga practice. For close-up, detailed images, I switched to the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens. This allowed me to zoom in on the finer details, like the alignment of her body or the calm focus on her face.
