RISD Friends: Reuniting from New York, Providence and Boston

Last week, I embarked on a photo project that took me from New York to Providence and finally to Boston. This journey wasn’t just another assignment; it gave me a priceless chance to reconnect with some of the most important people in my life—my RISD friends. Some of these friends I hadn’t seen in years; in a few cases, it had been over a decade. During our time at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), we shared countless ups, downs, and sideways moments. From wild adventures and late-night projects to midnight drives with the Pixies, Al Green, and Notorious B.I.G. as our soundtrack, these kindred spirits left an unforgettable mark on my life.

One vivid memory is from my senior year at RISD in 1999. Midway through the year, I had to drop out because my family’s financial situation took a turn for the worse. Without money for the winter trip from Providence to Baltimore, my friends shared what they had to pay for gas and food. Even today, I feel overwhelmed with gratitude when I think of that moment. Their kindness taught me that true friendship means offering help freely, without waiting to be asked.

To Jim, Tani, Eric, and Michelle—Herzlichen Dank (heartfelt thanks) for being the amazing people you are. I hope our bond continues to grow through this lifetime and beyond. I feel very lucky to have such great people from RISD as friends. I can’t wait to share more of their stories and photos soon.
