Gita for Peru is more than just a music project; rather, it fully embodies the practice of karma yoga—selfless service. Not only musicians, but also videographers, photographers, graphic designers, and venue providers all contribute from the heart, without expecting anything in return. Their collective generosity and open-heartedness, therefore, move me deeply. Moreover, each person’s contribution clearly demonstrates the power of community and the beauty of giving freely. Indeed, the fulfillment that comes from showing up and offering one’s talents in this way is truly remarkable.
Meet the Musicians Behind Each Sound
Get to know the talented musicians who bring our music to life.
Angela Blueskies began playing the flute at nine years old. She pursued her passion for music at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore. Angela’s love for music eventually led her on a spiritual journey across four continents. Along the way, she developed a deep connection to Peru’s land, culture, and people. Angela now merges music with prayer, honoring her indigenous roots and embracing her role as a Song Keeper.
Liz Robinson started dancing at the age of five and later developed a passion for sacred poetry and spiritual texts. Her studies in modern dance at the University of Maryland, combined with training under DC choreographers, significantly shaped her artistic expression. Moreover, Liz’s fascination with the divine led her to explore texts from various religions, discovering beauty in different ways to honor the sacred. Currently, Liz studies acupuncture at the Tai Sophia Institute while also practicing dance, yoga, and Qi Gong.
Lance David Bergerson, a seasoned traveler across the United States, has cultivated a deep meditation practice since 1972. Consequently, he now imparts Buddhist philosophy in Baltimore and Frederick, MD. Additionally, Lance’s spiritual journey led him to visit the Four Holy Sites in India and Nepal, further demonstrating his devotion. Today, he skillfully leverages the soothing sounds of Himalayan singing bowls and bells to enhance meditation sessions, thereby bringing peace and tranquility to those who listen to his music.
Owen Okie began studying traditional Chinese music and the pipa in 2002. Since then, he has performed with various groups, including Levialora and the Noumenon, a Baltimore-based belly-dance and music troupe. Owen’s interests, however, extend beyond music to martial arts, rock climbing, and herbal medicine. Currently, he focuses on his studies in Herbal Medicine and Buddhist Psychotherapy, temporarily pausing his musical pursuits.
Sean McCutcheon has spent the past sixteen years playing percussion and bass guitar in various bands, workshops, and drum circles. His musical influences include progressive rock and world music. Sean holds a B.A. in Philosophy and an M.S. in Computer Science, and he has studied at Naropa University and Antioch College. Beyond music, he also writes software, creates visual art, and teaches kung fu, tai chi, and meditation in Baltimore.
The Role of Selfless Service
Gita for Peru thrives on the principle of selfless service. Contributors offer their time and talents freely, without expecting rewards. This spirit of generosity, therefore, drives every aspect of the project, from music creation to event organization. Consequently, the project’s success comes from the collective willingness of individuals to give wholeheartedly.
The Impact of Community Effort
Every person involved plays a crucial role in the project’s achievements. Whether through their musical talents, logistical support, or creative input, their contributions are invaluable. Furthermore, this community-driven approach not only sustains Gita for Peru but also amplifies its impact, spreading the message of love and selflessness far and wide.See more music related photogrraphies.
