I photographed Majer Metal Works’ custom desk for an executive at Planit Agency, focusing on the craftsmanship and design details. The blend of industrial and natural elements, from the blackened steel legs to the rough-sawn heart pine beam, made the shoot exciting and visually engaging. Capturing the desk’s unique features, including the tempered glass top and the contrast between materials, was a rewarding experience.
The Blend of Industrial and Natural Elements
The desk’s legs, made from cold rolled steel, are blackened to create a bold, industrial look. Galvanized carriage bolt leveling feet add both function and a unique aesthetic touch. These feet slot into and bolt through a rough sawn beam of heart pine, contrasting beautifully with the steel. This mix of materials gives the desk an industrial yet natural feel, making it versatile for various design styles.
Meanwhile, the asymmetrical arrow-shaped top, made from 1/2” (1.27 cm) tempered glass, offers a modern, sleek surface. Polished edges enhance its refined appearance. Cantilevering arms securely hold the glass, adding to the desk’s sophisticated and durable design.
Capturing the Details: Photography Gear
To showcase the desk’s craftsmanship and intricate details, top-tier photography equipment was used. A Canon EOS 5D Mark III, known for capturing fine details and vibrant colors, was chosen for the shoot. The EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens captured wide-angle shots, emphasizing the desk’s structure and design. The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens highlighted both broad features and finer details, offering versatility. Lastly, the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM lens delivered stunning close-ups, focusing on the texture of the heart pine, the polished glass edges, and the robust steel legs.
This high-quality gear captured every aspect of the desk, from materials to craftsmanship, with precision and clarity. As a result, viewers can fully appreciate the elegance and design of Majer Metal Work’s creation.

“His kind directness makes working with him so easy.”
Working with Jiho is an unique experience. He is an extremely engaged photographer, and he works very hard to capture the most compelling images that a particular subject might provide. He doesn’t hold back, but he is also very particular, resulting in images with both quality and dynamism. His work ethic is impressive, and his care in treating people never falters. In addition to shooting images of work in our studio, he has taken images of completed work both after and during installation. In all circumstances, he has successfully engaged the people in the environment, making the process of shooting a difficult object in a busy place a special event rather than an imposition, and the results are visible in the quality of his work.
I would recommend Jiho for any project—his attention to the subject is just as careful when shooting a person, an inanimate object, or even a pile of tools in a messy studio. His kind directness makes working with him so easy.
